At EFICO, we feel very lucky to have a representative office
in Addis Ababa: KURU.

Quality, traceability and sustainability as key pillars

Abdurahman and his team are based in Addis Ababa, committed to carefully select and preparea range of high qualitative,
traceable and sustainable Ethiopian coffees.

With over 30 years of experience in the coffee industry in Ethiopia and Europe, Abdurahman has a deep understanding of the coffee market.
He served as Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX) Board Member and was Vice Chairman of the Ethiopia Commodity Exchange Actors Association.

Abdurahman: “At KURU we make a difference by taking care of sourcing, processing & quality control of all purchased coffees.
We source coffee cherries and parchment directly from farmers and washing stations, are a registered buyer at the ECX and
we take care of supervision of the entire supply chain, following national and international requirements. Our wet mills and
facility for coffee processing and qualitative storage with an organized quality inspection and cupping laboratory supports
our vision to providing high qualitative Ethiopian coffees.”

EFICO Foundation

Besides sourcing, coffee processing, quality control and logistics, KURU is also responsible for EFICO Foundation’s projects in Ethiopia.

The EFICO Foundation was launched in 2003 as a commitment of the EFICO Group to sustainable development,
promoting our projects among the coffee roaster community.
Established as a private foundation, the EFICO Foundation’s goal is to positively impact coffee farmers’ livelihoods, prosperity & environment.

Several projects were implemented in Ethiopia, together with KURU and other local & international partners.

The projects address:
∙ Certification & Verification: First Rainforest Alliance certification for smallholder farmers & Dissemination of the 4C Guide
∙ Conservation of coffee biodiversity & promotion of wild coffee growing
∙ Coffee processing improvement: Waste water treatment system & improvement of wet mill & drying systems
∙ Income diversification and increased ecosystem services via bee-keeping
∙ Empowering of rural youth through quality education
