YOUNG WORKERS & SUSTAINABLE COFFEE

This project addresses main weaknesses in the coffee sector in San Martin that are preventing its smallholders from reaching full potential in terms of quality, competitiveness and sales. Through an integrated technical assistance and training plan, productivity and sustainability of coffee production in agro-forestry systems is enhanced, with main focus on the work services provided by 20 young workers.

TRAINING EXCHANGE PROGRAM

In the Cuzco region we support a Peru-Ecuador training exchange program for a select group of technicians on production practices and especially to see how Ecuador handles the fermentation and drying processes of cocoa.

EMPOWERMENT VIA VERIFICATION

In Peru, in the Province San Ignacio, Cajamarca, two coffee associations are verified to operate according to the C.A.F.E. Practices Code of Conduct. Certification process starts with comprehensive training for growers. During such trainings, farmers learn how to properly sort, dry and ferment the coffee beans to improve coffee quality.
