SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN GUATEMALA

  • Beneficiaries: 159 students

    • Nuevo Platanillo: 65 students: 28 girls & 37 boys
    • Volcanic San Marcos: 71 students: 30 girls & 41 boys
    • Scholarships for 23 students: 9 women & 14 men

    Free medical days for coffee community: first one in March 2021 benefited 75 people: 30 women & 45 men

PURPOSE

  • Build empowered youth for future development via education and technology;
  • Continuity of the Nuevo Platanillo computer program;
  • Provide scholarships to enroll in the “Coffee Bachelor High School program Volcanic San Marcos” and education programs in San Marcos Guatemala;
    the first program won the 2017 SCA Sustainability Award
  • Establish the schools as model schools in San Marcos so more youngsters are enrolled;
  • Further digitization during COVID-19 times: implementation of a web page to give workshops for the Coffee Bachelor and Nuevo Platanillo education program, provided by Funcafé & Cotesco;
  • Provide free medical days for the coffee community
This project is possible thanks to the support of FUNCAFÉ, Nuevo Platanillo Association for Development, Finca El Platanillo/Panorama/Grupo Cotesco, Emmi CAFFÈ LATTE, Hoorens Koffie and EFICO Central America/the EFICO Foundation and runs from March 2021 to December 2023.
