IMPROVED COFFEE QUALITY AND PRODUCTIVITY VIA ENVIRONMENTAL-SOUND TECHNOLOGY IN GUATEMALA
PURPOSE
- Build a new wet mill with a water recollection tank which gathers rain water during the rainy season
- Improve coffee quality as farmers will be able to process their coffee at the same mill under a standardized technology and process control
- Reduce water consumption by 60% compared to the initial situation
- Improved health situation and decrease the risks for diseases by implementing a new waste water filtering and processing system to purify the water
- Build a 51 sqm warehouse to store up to 150 quintals (bags of 100 lbs) of dry parchment coffee
This project was possible thanks to the support of BKI Foods, Cruz Grande Integral Agriculture Cooperative, FUNCAFÉ, ANACAFE and EFICO Central America/the EFICO Foundation and ran from August 2015 to November 2016. Technical follow-up took place in 2017 and 2018.
