KACHALÚ COFFEE: EDUCATION FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE & ICT

COFFEE AND EDUCATION IN COLOMBIA

  • Project Budget: € 60,000

  • Beneficiaries:
    Directly
    • 70 elementary school students (ages 5 to 11);
    • 148 secondary school students (ages 11 to 17); and
    • 11 rural teachers from Delicias School headquarters.
    All students come from families involved in coffee production; 50% of the students are girls.
    Others
    • 86 elementary school students;
    • Six teachers from five departments in the Delicias School, and
    • 220 coffee growing families in the region.

PURPOSE

  • Generate a change in rural education programs for coffee growing regions.
  • Children familiar with ICT and good coffee growing practices and promoting sustainable development.
  • Rural teachers with better educational content and methods to stimulate students' learnings.
  • Five percent reduction in children school drop-out rates within three years.
  • Create a link between sustainable production and consumption through the coffee supply chain.

This project was possible thanks to the support of FNC, Provincial Government of Santander/Secretariat of Education, Mayor's Office of Puente Nacional/Educational Institute Delicias, Colruyt and the EFICO Foundation and ran from 2010 to 2012.
