EMPOWERING WOMEN COFFEE PRODUCERS AND YOUTH IN GUATEMALA
PURPOSE
- Build empowered women coffee producers and youth for future development via training and knowledge transfer;
- Implement training topics such as sustainability, adaptation to and mitigation of climate change (reduce emissions and sequester CO2 in agroforestry systems), efficient production practices and health;
- Improve skills of minimum 100 people by 2020;
- 55 new youngsters to finish their degree in the “Coffee Bachelor High School program” by 2020;
this program won the 2017 SCA Sustainability Award - Maintain the computer class and elementary school in Nuevo Platanillo to benefit 160 students;
- Select a group of 4 students with a high motivation and potential to become ‘change agents’ for their communities.
This project was possible thanks to the support of FUNCAFÉ, Nuevo Platanillo Association for Development, Finca El Platanillo/Panorama/Grupo Cotesco and the EFICO Foundation and ran from January 2018 to December 2020.
