PARTICIPATORY FOREST MANAGEMENT IN ETHIOPIA

PURPOSE

  • Implement Participatory Forest Management (PFM in forests, and thereby forest coffee in four forests in Oromia and SNNPR), a functional, sustainable natural resource management system.
  • Create sustainable livelihoods through wild coffee growing for local communities
  • Improve coffee quantity and quality
  • Provide incentives to protect forest resources
  • Generate more income by adding value to the coffee and through improved market links
  • Consider gender roles and give specific training accordingly
  • Strengthen women’s role through positive discrimination to ensure the inclusion of women in different training and activities
  • Use PFM plans to accommodate the special needs for illiterate people
