ZERO CARBON : TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE FARMING
CLIMATE ACTION IN HONDURAS
CLIMATE ACTION IN HONDURAS
PURPOSE
General
- To mitigate environmental impacts and climate change and to promote biodiversity, to improve the resilience of local ecosystems, and to strengthen the economic and social sustainability of our partners and the community in general.
- To respond to the demands of increasingly conscious and environmentally concerned consumers and to raise the standards of the coffee industry.
Specific
- To make an inventory of forest and productive trees on each farm, in which the emissions and removals present in each area are quantified.
The emissions generated in each of the production units are minimal, due to the implementation of good agricultural practices, which adhere to organic and regenerative certification standards. - The implementation of agroforestry systems plays a crucial role in carbon sequestration, helping to create a positive balance concerning the emissions generated in the operations.
- By promoting agricultural practices that integrate trees and crops, biodiversity is fostered and more robust and resilient ecosystems are created.
These agroforestry systems improve soil health, increase water retention capacity, and provide habitats for various species, contributing to the conservation of local flora and fauna. - By adopting more sustainable practices, partner farmers can benefit from better yields and higher quality products, which can, in turn, open new market opportunities and improve their income.
At the same time, social cohesion and community development is strengthened, creating an environment in which all involved actors benefit and thrive.
This project is possible thanks to the support of CAFICO, Hesselink Koffie Foundation and EFICO Central America/the EFICO Foundation and runs from June 2025 to June 2027.
It contributes to SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13 Climate Action and SDG 15 Life on Land.
