Chanta Peña
Peru: San Ignacio, Cajamarca
In the early 2000s, Estanislao Chanta and his wife, Doña Ana, acquired a modest plot of land, beginning an inspiring journey in coffee production. With a rich tradition of cultivating high-quality coffee for Peru’s domestic market, the Chanta Peña family took a bold leap 5 years ago into coffee processing and exporting, supported by Coopafsi. Since then, they have focused on producing premium coffee while prioritizing environmental sustainability and community welfare.
On their 5-hectare farm, the family grows 8 distinct coffee varietals, providing jobs for over 10 people. They established San Francisco Frontera Farm, named for its location near the Ecuadorian border -‘frontera’ meaning ‘border’ in Spanish. The region’s unique climate and geography create perfect conditions for specialty coffee. Nestled within the buffer zones of a protected natural area, the farm follows stringent sustainable practices to safeguard the environment.
After harvest, the parchment coffee is sent to Coopafsi’s warehouses in San Ignacio for rigorous physical and sensory evaluation in their quality lab. Once graded, the coffee is transported to a dry processing plant in Chiclayo, ensuring consistent excellence in every batch.
