PURPOSE

  • Improve living conditions of local population with hybrid cocoa variety (Forestero Amazonien from Criollo and Trinitario, with two annual, disease-resistant harvests)
  • Provide expert training for cultivation
  • Increase livelihood of cocoa farmers to improve family nutrition, ensure tuition for children and help them rely less on natural resources (i.e. less poaching)
  • Improved sustainable development to meet social, economic and environmental sustainability criteria

This project was possible thanks to the support of Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp, Institute of Agricultural Research for Development, Ministry of Agriculture in Cameroon, the communities of Malen V, Doumo-Pierre and Mimpala and the EFICO Foundation and ran from January 2009 to January 2010.
