WATER FILTERS TO IMPROVE WOMEN COFFEE GROWERS’ EMPOWERMENT IN RURAL COFFEE PLANTATIONS IN GUATEMALA

PURPOSE

  • Organize training sessions in the local Mayan native language to support social empowerment of women coffee growers in all aspects of safe water drinking and healthy practices to eliminate contamination
  • Promote eco-friendly safe water consumption which will improve the surrounding environment
  • Advocate for banning the use of plastic bottles and firewood to boil water to put less pressure on natural resources and preserve the planet
  • Distribute water filters to give easy access to fresh and clean water and contribute to time saving, either at home or on the work place

This project was possible thanks to the support of Mujeres en Café Guatemala, AFAL, EURACEN, and EFICO Central America/the EFICO Foundation and ran from January 2012 to January 2013.
