IMPLEMENTATION OF THE 4C VERIFICATION AND THE RAINFOREST ALLIANCE CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS

PILOT PROJECT: PRODUCT DIFFERENTIATION IN COLOMBIA

    Verified 4C business partners (coffee farmers and other partners in the 4C unit including mills and
    cooperatives): 25,143 (4.5%) of total Colombian coffee farmers (560,000) at the time.

PURPOSE

  • Develop training modules/financial tools.
  • Transfer know-how on sustainable coffee production to smallholders in five coffee districts.
  • Improve local production infrastructure.
  • Develop pilot project and assessment on the 4C concept to determine feasibility in the Colombian coffee environment; pay special attention to the conditions of smallholders and their production systems.

This project was possible thanks to the support of FNC, GIZ (former GTZ),  FICA, the Rainforest Alliance, 4C and the EFICO Foundation and ran from 2006 to 2008.
