This specific coffee is called Tanzania “Tumaini”, meaning “HOPE” in Kiswahili. This fully washed Rainforest Alliance coffee has a balanced cup, fine acidity, milk chocolate body with fruity flavors, berry and tobacco notes, bright sweetness and rounded with smooth finish. It is produced by APK, a business owned by a family group with deep roots in Colombia under the leadership of Alejandro Galante, which makes APK uniquely Tanzanian with a Colombian feel. Through the EFICO Foundation project 'Kilimanjaro Water and Food For all', APK, together with Herencia Value Your Legacy and EFICO seek to mitigate productive, social, environmental and financial risks for their operations in Tanzania, while improving resilience in their coffee value chain through the implementation of regenerative and water efficient agricultural systems for coffee and maize seeds in 2 APK farms to restore soil productivity and grant access to water and food for rural communities in Kilimanjaro. KILIMANJARO WATER AND FOOD FOR ALL

By increasing water efficiency and reducing risks along the coffee & food value chains, Kilimanjaro Water & Food for All will improve living conditions for 2,700+ families. It deploys an innovative, comprehensive and scalable model for water management & regenerative agriculture to speed productivity recovery, secure rural water and maize seeds supply, reducing CO2 emissions through best irrigation and water use practices linked to water stewardship in 2 farms in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania.  

PROMOTION OF AND EDUCATION FOR HEALTHY SCHOOL CHILDREN ∙ FOLLOW-UP

The overall objective of this project is to improve the quality of life of 150 students in El Pinal, Copan, Honduras. This through education, adding new nutritional components to the school lunch menu, improving the conditions of the kitchen area and tools of the school lunch, implementing a sustainable school garden as well as educational and corrective actions in hygienic habits, de-parasitizing and the provision of vitamin supplements.

HEALTHY HOMES IN OLOPA, CHIQUIMULA

This project's objective is to improve the living conditions and health of 85 smallholder coffee families in El Bendito and Los Vasquez of Olopa Guatemala, through the implementation of 116 housing solutions in 3 years' time. This will include smokeless stoves, concrete floors, rainwater harvesting systems and reinforcement capacities through capacity building training.

SPECIAL EMERGENCY PROJECT ∙ FUEGO VOLCANO ERUPTION DISASTER RESPONSE

On June 3rd 2018, the Fuego Volcano erupted in Guatemala, mainly affecting coffee regions. As a response to this volcano eruption and its consequences, we initiated a special emergency Volcano project together with Habitat for Humanity Guatemala (HFHG) to provide structural support for the families that needed to be re-allocated by contributing in the construction of their homes, bringing them hope for the future. The overall objective of this project is the assistance of coffee farming families affected by the volcano eruption in Valle de las Flores, Palin, Esquintla, Guatemala.

STRENGTHENING PRODUCTIVE AND ASSOCIATION CAPABILITIES OF 100 SMALLHOLDER SPECIALTY COFFEE PRODUCERS

This project's objective is to provide 100 small specialty coffee producers and their families in Northern Nariño in Colombia with improved organizational, business and management skills, a better market integration and effective advocacy for local coffee-market government policies, improved trading and business conditions, better access to coffee market information, and improved negotiation skills for green coffee marketing.
